Ethical Issues

Biomimetic robots are a huge ethical concern due to their purpose. They have been used to fight alongside military soldiers in war, but it's possible in the near future that they may help around the home with housework . It is argued whether or not these robots may be programmed to cause harm and take part in criminal activities or to simply be beneficial to the society. [8]

ISSUES

Legal Issues

Biomimetics are regulated by the federal government because most of it, such as Mirasol, has already been patented. There are intellectual property questions that come up related to biomimetics, so it's very important for products to be patented. But, legal issues relative to liability will come into play if someone is injured by one of these "helpful" robots and the injured party sues. [8]

Social Issues

There isn't much in the way of social issues because biomimetics exist simply to solve issues in the society. That being said, there are those who think biomimicry (especially the rise of robots) could negatively impact society, and lead to androids "taking over," which may sound ridiculous, but is, in fact, a possibility, according to the article on NPR that discusses androids and technological singularity. People also worry that robots might limit jobs for those who are desperately in need of work to provide for themselves and their family. However, it is most commonly believed that the benefits of biomimetics will outweigh these concerns. [8] [13

Some people are concerned with the use of androids in everyday life.
